WHAT: Media briefing on a new Health Impact Study conducted by The Lewin Group which finds that certain dietary supplements when regularly taken could positively impact the health of seniors with age-related diseases, such as Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) and central vision loss attributable to age-related macular degeneration.
According to The Lewin Group's findings, taking the popular supplements lutein with zeaxanthin for persons at risk of AMD and omega-3 fatty acids for persons at risk of CHD could result in reduced hospital stays, physician fees and a reduction in the transition to greater dependency -- potentially saving the Medicare program billions of dollars. An additional study to be discussed concludes than 187 million American routinely take dietary supplements.
In addition, Congressman Chris Cannon will formally announce the formation of a Congressional Dietary Supplement Caucus.
