UK Foods Standards Agency claims win in the courts, but threat of legal action from UK based Friends of the Earth forced positive change in advice to British retailers.
Friends of the Earth brought a Judicial Review challenge against the Food Standards Agency regarding the application of EU law in handling the issue of contamination of US long grain rice with an unauthorised genetically modified rice. The hearing took place on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 February and judgement was given this afternoon.
The FSA vigorously defended the challenge on the basis that the UK complied fully with its obligations under EU law. The review found in favour of the FSA. The Agency is pleased with this judgement and will reflect on the judge
