Drugs and mental health – joining the dots

At ANH-Intl we’re passionate about the future of natural healthcare.  It’s sustainable, it’s inexpensive and it can be personalised to our genetic, cultural and individual needs.  As it stands today, the biggest threat to its increased adoption is the central role pharmaceutical agents play in the prevention, management and treatment of disease.  If the decision to place this level of importance on drug-based modalities had an objective scientific basis there would of course be no issue.  But over and over again we witness issues of cover-ups, revolving doors, data manipulation and misleading marketing, especially to doctors.

This week’s stories hopefully will connect some additional dots for you.  Our first piece draws together a series of graphs and figures to demonstrate some of the key transitions that are occurring in Big Pharma, some of which are likely to have major knock on effects on patient choice both in the Western world and elsewhere.

There are a lot of people who are dissatisfied with the kind of care they are presently able to access in mainstream healthcare, especially those with mental health issues.  Increasing numbers of people are opting to avoid pharmaceuticals because they’ve found them to be ineffective, they’ve been unable to cope with the side-effects, they can’t afford or access them, or they prefer other more natural treatments.  The difficulty with the present healthcare system in many parts of the world is that often these people simply fall through the cracks.  They may not be able to afford appropriate treatments, being left to pay privately, they can fall victim to misleading marketeers selling generic or adulterated natural products on the Internet or they have difficulty finding authoritative and supportive healthcare suited to their particular condition.  These issues are picked up this week by Adele Wolstenhulme, a Brighton-based nutritional practitioner with whom we work extensively.

As always our bite-sized news snippets are there for your on-the-go awareness and sharing!

In health, naturally
