Toxic shock – internal or otherwise |

Given that our weekly articles usually have a common thread, you may wonder what toxin-laden tampons and the EU’s Nutrition and Health Claims Regulation (NHCR) have in common. This week’s theme is shock. Toxic shock. Because shock of any kind is toxic, whether it be mental or physical, it’s just the degree that varies. And did you appreciate that whether the shock is from an internal or external source, mental, emotional or physical, your immune system is still triggered ready for defence? It’s just the degree that varies.
Our lead article this week puts the spotlight back on the NHCR again, a source of mental, and sometimes emotional, shock if you’re a business owner in Europe. The most draconian limits on freedom of speech ever seen on health foods and ingredients — anywhere in the world. While healthy society needs more people to be better informed about what’s good and bad in the supermarket isle, companies selling products have been silenced. Health stores become victims too – although the biggest losers are the very people the law is meant to protect.
Our second piece looks at shock of a different kind – internal shock from commonly available tampons used by millions of women and over which there is little or no public discussion of safety. Tampon users…it’s time to get smart!
As always, we have some newsworthy nuggets for those time-pressured quick read moments.
