Week No 8 | 19/02/2020

Reconnection

This week we have been brutally reminded how a sense of disconnection can lead to tragedy. A well known English TV celebrity and presenter committed suicide on Saturday because she felt unable to continue in the face of an impending court trial, being hounded by the media and pilloried on social media. Caroline Flack was just 40, yet clearly feeling so brutally disconnected from all that she lived for, including having part of the once adoring public turn on her, proved too much. It's understandable, a sense of disconnection causes the primitive, impulsive part of our brain to take over, increasing feelings of anxiety and depression. Flack for all her brightness and vivacity was clearly fragile and has been open in the past about suffering with depression. The news has left the UK reeling from the sadness of it all and the recognition that it's too easy for any of us to get disconnected and forget that others may need to feel our connection, not just hear words of support. Rest in peace Caroline.

Our lead piece this week is all about reconnection to our ancestral heritage, sharing mimicking strategies so you can get your genes working for you rather than against you. Our genes are powerfully impacted by our environment, our behaviour and the food we eat. By understanding our evolutionary biology we can use the physiological strategies Nature has given us to return our body's flexibility and resilience. If nothing else, we hope you watch the video and let the split screen format do the talking for us!

The second article is about wider reconnection with people and planet through the results of our 2020 Vision Survey. Despite being part of the ANH team, the questions really made me stop, pause and take time to consider my priorities. It seems that I wasn't alone and the survey had that effect on most respondents. The results are interesting and may not be quite what you were expecting...

Bayer is back in the news this week for more darstedly (criminal?) deeds, will Vitamin C outperform antiviral drugs for Coronavirus?, Pharma funded internet watchdog set for more censorship of natural health online and skyrocketing type 2 diabetes in American kids are some of our top snippets.

In connected health, naturally
