Week No 16 | 17/04/2019

The ecology era has arrived

The era of ecological consciousness really picked up around the time Joni Mitchell sang “Hey farmer, farmer, put away that DDT now” in her 1970 hit Big Yellow Taxi - inspired by Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring (1962). Nearly 50 years on, people are taking to the streets via the Extinction Rebellion movement and have over the last two days brought London’s traffic to a standstill. Are governments and corporations listening?

But when are people going to connect the dots and realise that we – as human beings – are part of the same environmental system? That if we want balanced health – we need to work with nature, not against it. That’s front and centre of everything we do at ANH. In our lead piece this week, we bring you more information about the Ecological Terrain – one of the central elements of our health sustainability blueprint.

If you’re still confused about fats, Ellen in our team has put together an 8-minute video of me geeking out over a recently published Chinese scientific paper looking at fat intake and cardiovascular disease risk from a meta-analysis of studies around the world. We know that more and more of you are using video or podcasts to get information you can trust – please let us know (via our website or social media portals) if video is a helpful way of telling you about research?

In this week’s new snippets, learn about nature ‘pills’, the push back from the grain industry pointing the finger at processed and red meats, another study that says food-derived micronutrients are better than supplements and why you should avoid the sweetener sucralose, especially when it’s heated.

In health, naturally and sustainably,
