Very far from checkmate even though Pfizer has a green light
This week’s newsletter is, unsurprisingly, meaty. It’s been a landmark week with the UK ‘winning’ the global race to greenlight the first covid vaccine for mass distribution. The UK’s decision has meant that the BioNTech/Pfizer covid vaccine has pipped Moderna and Oxford/AstraZeneca to their carefully selected finishing post. Again, unsurprisingly, the response to the news has been deeply polarised.
The authorities appear to be doing nothing to address the ever-widening divide between the ‘saviour vaccine’ camp and the informed consent camp. But you cannot escape the fact that the new generation vaccines are medical interventions that rely on brand new, synthetic, biologically engineered genetic materials that could result in a life-changing adverse event. What’s more, they’re being released before all findings and analysis of the Phase 3 studies are complete. Hence, our lead article offers you 4 things we feel any self-respecting, health aware person should know in order to allow an informed choice about this covid vaccine.
We’re not alone in our thinking that the science is thin on the ground. Our second piece discusses 3 current scientific challenges that could seriously move the chess pieces on the board - 2 concerning mass testing using PCR and a heavy weight petition that’s been submitted to the European Medicines Agency regarding vaccine trial design and mass testing. Our third piece this week reveals the confirmation we received from the UK Department of Health and Social Care via a Freedom of Information request that 188,000 of us, including many of you, were roundly ignored regarding mass vaccination. But at least we have a paper trail.
It may feel like checkmate to some, but to us, the chess game is far from over. It’s always the least expected moves that change the face of the game in the end.
