Copenhagen Phoenix and the Hybrid Diet

Uncertainty surrounds us. When it comes to medicine, in most people’s minds, “doctor knows best”. But that’s a flawed and potentially dangerous view if doctors are fed the wrong information. That’s what our lead story from last weekend’s conference in Copenhagen is all about.

While Dr Peter Gøtzsche may be among the most famous and newest recruit to the growing band of pharma whistleblowers, something good can happen when a bunch of whistleblowers get together. That’s now happened and a new institute, being built on foundations of integrity, openness, transparency and independence, is being created.  But you won’t read about this in the newspapers and most doctor’s will never know when, how or what happened. That is what media and scientific censorship – as well as public manipulation in the face of manufactured uncertainty – does. The public are the main losers, and the Internet and social networks remain the main ways in which people can become better informed. So please share widely.

Parliamentarians are of course not immune to uncertainty. The British airwaves are unsurprisingly now awash with discussions about the extraordinary array of scenarios that might eventuate depending on which way the Parliament votes in tonight’s no-deal Brexit motion by the UK government. Uncertainty is exploited by people on all sides of the debate – again it’s the public that has the most to lose.

Our second story is about a contribution in the form of a book that might lessen uncertainty over how, what and when to eat. We review The Hybrid Diet, the latest book, to be published next week, out of the Patrick Holford/Jerome Burne authoring factory. It adds another dimension to the flawed notion of a one-size-fits-all way of eating that has done nothing to improve outcomes with spiralling rates of diet-related disease.

In our weekly news snippets we comment on issues ranging from the deeply disturbing consultation in Australia that could lock doctors out of using natural therapies as well as the fight to stop the imposition of VAT on supplements in Ireland.

In health, naturally and sustainably
