Informed consent and the other great reset

You may have been getting dizzy over the deeply disturbing figures emanating from governments these last few days. Please understand that some of them are deliberately designed to precipitate fear.

Take for example today’s news that more people in Britain had died of covid-19 than in the Great Plague of 1665. The 68,600 people who died of the Great Plague should be seen in the context of the roughly 5 million population at the time. The plague killed 1.4% of the population – a similar percentage today would represent around 931,600 dead from covid-19. While 100,000 deaths to covid may appear on the record, but let’s also remember these are people who have passed with covid (a positive test within 28 days of death) and not necessarily because of it.

The unnecessary loss of life is shocking – and is inevitably deeply distressing for the families and friends affected. But it’s becoming increasingly difficult to apportion the death toll to a single virus. We’re dealing with a systematic failure by governments, health authorities, the medical establishment and a misinformed public to learn how to adapt to this new threat. And an increasing number are dying because of inadequate access to healthcare, while more will die through distress, loss of family contact, loss of purpose, deprivation, loss of educational opportunities, and widening health inequalities - all causes that are triggered by the economic and social impacts of lockdowns.

This week we offer we raise our deep concerns for how the current climate has led to the suspension of one of the most important principles underpinning medical ethics: informed consent.
